With an official groundbreaking ceremony, the construction of the project "Rehabilitation and Expansion of the Water Supply and Sewerage Network of the Town of Elhovo" began.
On November 28, 2018, the construction activities for the project "Rehabilitation and Expansion of the Water Supply and Sewerage Network of the Town of Elhovo" commenced. The official groundbreaking ceremony was attended by the Executive Director of Raicommerce Construction PLC – Mr. Ivan Mollov, the Mayor of Elhovo Municipality – Petar Kirov, the Regional Governor of Yambol Region, the Manager of "Water Supply and Sewerage" Yambol Ltd., Deputy Mayors, and employees of the Municipal Administration.
The symbolic groundbreaking was performed by the contracting authority, Elhovo Municipality, represented by Mayor Petar Kirov, and the contractor of the project, Raicommerce Construction PLC, represented by the Executive Director – Mr. Ivan Mollov. In his address, Eng. Mollov congratulated the citizens of Elhovo and the municipal administration for the long and challenging journey to the start of the project, emphasizing its importance for the better living conditions of the town and a cleaner environment. He reminded everyone that the most challenging part is just beginning, where builders and citizens will have to endure the inconveniences of the construction process together and concluded with a call for patience and understanding. Mayor Petar Kirov noted that the primary goal of the project is to stop the discharge of untreated wastewater into the Tundzha River and, more broadly, to meet the requirements set out in national and European legislation for the collection and treatment of wastewater in urban areas. Mr. Kirov added that the implementation of this project would comprehensively address environmental protection issues, improve sanitary and hygienic living conditions, and reduce health risks for the population.
The project is funded under the Operational Program "Environment" with a budget of BGN 4,489,725.59 excluding VAT. The planned activities include the rehabilitation and construction of a sewerage network approximately 3,500 meters long and the rehabilitation and construction of a water supply network approximately 2,500 meters long. The project completion period is 11 months. In the next phase, the design and construction of a wastewater treatment plant, including the construction of a feeder collector to it, are planned.
The overall implementation of the project will achieve one of the specific strategic goals of the OPE – the preservation and improvement of water conditions, and it will significantly contribute to the realization of another goal – the preservation of biodiversity and the protection of nature in the town and its surroundings.
